Natural Pregnancy Guide with Essential Oils

When you choose to start trying for a baby it can be the most exciting time but also one that is commonly filled with more questions than answers, especially when it comes to essential oils.

Firstly, listen to your mama intuition. All our bodies and babies are different. Each of us will have individual concerns and will need to do our own research. Please always refer first and foremost to your own comfort level and health history when making any decision. Chat with your doctor/ obstetrician and pediatrician for any health decisions and major concerns.

Unfortunately, not all oils are created equally and the essential oil industry is completely UNREGULATED. This means that oil companies can market their oil however they like. Why do they sell oils more cheaply? To save money. If you spray your crops with pesticides, you have more crop to distill. If you use a chemical solvent to extract the oil, you pull more out. If you dilute it with a cheaper oil or carrier oil, you can produce more of it. Using oils like this completely defeat the purpose of trying to decrease our chemical exposure.

Young Living oils are the only brand I use and recommend. You pay for quality. Each plant is hand weeded, there are no pesticides used, no chemicals, and no weed killers. The plants are harvested at their peak and go through a vigorous testing process. They then go from the farm directly to your home!

I remember being completely overwhelmed with where to start with buying clean baby products for my new babe. So we are going to give you a really simple tip here: AVOID FRAGRANCE.

They are in most of the products on the supermarket/pharmacy shelves these days. The dangers of synthetic scents or as we most commonly see it ‘fragrance’, aren’t always evident and you many have never thought too much about it, but we now have the science to prove that everyone, regardless of age or health, needs to make avoiding fake fragrances a major priority.

A National Academy of Sciences points out some vital facts: About 95 percent of chemicals used in synthetic fragrances are derived from petroleum (crude oil). They include benzene derivatives (carcinogenic), aldehydes, toluene and many other known toxic chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects, hormone issues, fertility issues, central nervous system disorders and allergic reactions. YIKES!

Unfortunately, toxic ingredients continue turn up in products we use and breathe in on a daily basis. Some of the worst toxic ingredients used in lotions, shampoos, laundry detergents, cleaning products and so much more include synthetic scents, often listed as on labels as the elusive “fragrance.” And many on the list are known or suspected endocrine disruptors, compounds that tinker with hormonal health that can trigger weight gain and even set you up for diseases decades down the line.

For our sweet new babes, its so important that we are using safe, clean products on their delicate skin. Our skin is the largest organ of our body and it drinks what we put on it. For infants, this is important to note because they don’t have the same detoxification we do as adults and their little bodies are still very much developing.
